Kinect-to-MIDI software

I was commissioned by composer Jesper Nordin – developer of Gestrument – to make a simple Kinect-to-MIDI conversion software. It recently got featured in CreateDigitalMusic and VDMX own tutorials! Yay!

Unmechanical wins ‘Best Artistic Achievement’

Unmechanical wins the prize ”Best Artistic Achievement” in the Nordic Game Awards 2013.
Below is the jury’s motivation:

“Artistry is sometimes visioning the end result and making it all fit together to make it dynamic and strikingly memorable.”

The happy camper in the picture is my friend and Talawa’s CEO Jesper Engström.

Unmechanical nominated for ‘Best sound’ etc.

Recently I got great news that Unmechanical is recieving attention around the world. Two festivals, hòPlay in Spain and BIG in Brazil have nominated the game in several categories and among them best sound/music. It’s a great honor for the team and myself and fingers crossed we might actually win an award, if not all of them :0). The festivals are scheduled in late November.

Quoting the Unmechanical homepage:

Wow, we are 1 of 5 games that are nominated for Best Game in South Americas first Games Festival, BIGfestival, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil!
Like that was not enough we are also nominated for Best Art & Sound making us, together with one more, the only 2 games nominated in 3 categories! =D
Then we have hóPLAY, in Spain, were Unmechanical also is nominated for Best Art and Best Sound.
Both of these festivals are held around the 27th to the 29th of Nov 2012.
What an honour this is, thank you so much for your support and making this possible!

A Little Maintenance

It’s been a while. I finally got around to updating the Portfolio page. I have added content to the Film and Commercials pages. Be sure to check out the short film Mustaschen in particular. It’s a lot of fun.

Currently I am working on a few really exciting art projects. Along side this I am getting closer and closer to releasing an album filled with really cozy electronica/IDM and I am currently in the last stages of mixing and hope to have it finished before the end of the year. As soon as I’m ready you’ll be able to listen to it here over at wrench, and eventually on Spotify. It will also be up for sale on iTunes and Amazon.

Lateley I have also been doing a lot of generative graphics with the awesome open source java based language ”Processing”. As soon as I get around to it, I’ll upload some visual goodies that I think you might like.

Tomorrow, I will be heading to the GameX fair in Kista. My hopes are high on meeting some indie developers that I have had my eye on.

"Det slutade åtminstone lyckligt"

”At least there was a happy ending”

This is a composition for Yamaha Disklavier, a midi controlled player piano. A computer outputs midi messages telling the piano which keys to press and actions to perform.
This piece was a part of the annual Disklavier concert called ”midicosmos” at Kungl. Musikhögskolan, Stockholm Sweden. It was also later performed at an event called ”Självspelande!” at Högskolan för Scen och Musik in Göteborg in collaboration with the composition students of HSM. The latter is also where the video was recorded (Thanks to Petter Jysky).
If you have acess to a Disklavier and want to hear this piece performed live, feel welcome to contact me and I’ll try to send you the midi-file.
I you want more Disklavier action, please feel free to listen to my colleagues works:
Isak Edberg – Enclosure
David Granström – Alignment

What’s In the Box!?

Box

Yesterday FedEx delivered a package that I had long been awaiting. What joy! It’s filled with these little buggers, and I can’t wait to get them up and running. What are they, you say? What do they do? Well, I’ll keep that a secret for now. I want it to be a surprise. But you are welcome to guess, of course!

There’s a new kid in town…

Gather your families and rejoice! Wrench.se just got a visual makeover. Fun for all and an experience to remember! Tell your friends.

The coming days some minor tweaking and maintenance will be done. If a page suddenly starts looking strange, this is probably why. But do not worry, it is all according to plan! Hopefully this will make the page easier to navigate and nicer to look at. Some new pages are due pretty soon as well so be sure to be on the lookout for that.

Sincerely,
Your best friend
